Two weeks ago, I heard about a new web 2.0 tool called Poll Everywhere which allows students to respond by text message from their cell phone to a poll posted by a teacher. While I am not sure if schools are ready to start allowing cell phones in classrooms, and I am not sure if parents are ready to fork over the money to pay for unlimited text messaging, this new tool got me thinking differently . There are good to great teachers on one side, and truly lousy ones on the other. As median income drops and skin-color darkens, you tend to find higher concentrations of those lousy ones. This is an important aspect that we a the Math lab or for that any member of the teaching community need to look at before shifting to newer technologies. We should make sure the latest technology has enough support to guarantee the same level instruction quality to all the students.

Students in a high school level Spanish class film each other using Apple?s iMovie software and then critique the films, thereby improving their language and communication skills. The opportunities are virtually endless. Other local schools, such as Horace Greeley High School in Chappaqua, are beginning to use more esoteric computer devices to enhance learning, such as the Tablet PC, a slate-shaped mobile computer. Math and computer science teacher Joshua Block uses the device as part of the ?Teaching with Tablets and Robotics? program, which was recently implemented at the school thanks to a $37,000 grant from The Chappaqua School Foundation. However, the digital natives are getting restless and have both the interest and the skills to engage in constructivist learning with computer games. So, where does one find computer games that go beyond remedial into the realm of remarkable?

Fortunately, there are many online videos, many of which are free. Further, there are many sites with solved problem sets, many with animation and voice-over.
