The concept of SOA can be viewed from several possible perspectives. While no single perspective or set of perspectives represents a definitive view of a SOA, from a holistic view these perspectives assist in understanding the underlying architectural requirements. John deVadoss, director, architecture strategy at Microsoft, has conveyed in a recent interview with eWeek (http://www.eweek.com/article2/0,1895,1918120,00.asp ) his organization’s interest in bridging the gap between SOA and Web 2.0. My view it is to stabilise the some the components which can be used by any other sattelite system or even internal modules as interface.

In this model, web application construction becomes more a matter of composing and less of coding. With the right tools, eventually even end users may be able to construct web applications that model the business processes they are most familiar with, helping to facilitate IT and business alignment. The disadvantage is that you can become locked into specific vendor software environments. If, for example, an organization uses SAP ERP application software, IBM WebSphere infrastructure software, and Microsoft Office and SharePoint collaborative software, it potentially has three different portal and content management environments. Vendor software would be hosted side by side with what has become ‘open source’. New business models would emerge in the areas of licensing and pricing for example, and the whole topic of ’software piracy’ would become far less important than ever before.

Microsoft Office Live, is the watered down version of Web 2.0, wrapped in a business model for folks who don’t know and frankly don’t care about Ajax or whatever that goes into the cauldron. There is now a direct, provable link between an organization’s flexibility and business performance. To optimize flexibility, companies must achieve unprecedented levels of integration and automation of key processes and infrastructure, both internally and externally. Delivering these services on demand?where customers can avoid the cost and complexity of on-premise software?is a key part of Serena?s business strategy. According to Gartner, ?Worldwide total software revenue for software as a service (SaaS) within the enterprise software markets is projected to surpass $5.1 billion in 2007, a 21 percent increase from 2006 revenue.

Sharing and dissemination of SOA-related information is highly encouraged. These can be news, announcements, events, posting of best practices related to issues like web services interoperability, how-to, etc. Most KM literature, however, are really only talking about managing information and not knowledge . VevoCart’s shopping cart product feed feature sends product information to free and paid shopping comparison networks such as Bizrate, Dealtime, Google and others. The latest VevoCart 2.5 will add support for the Google Base product feed.

Fortunately, SOA and WOA are similar enough that those who want to implement SOA can sit back and watch WOA and Web 2.0 developers work out the kinks in their systems. As such, WOA and Web 2.0 developers are creating the de-facto standards necessary for the foundation of SOA. They have developed an infrastructure and begun deploying services, but are faced with the challenge of how to go the ‘Last Mile’ and deliver these services to end-users. Nexaweb’s Web2SOA Program ensures that as customers use Nexaweb to develop, deploy and maintain Enterprise Web 2.0 applications that they can quickly and easily leverage existing and future elements of their SOA initiative in the process.
