The panel will solicit stories and case studies from the attendees, to highlight techniques used throughout the community. By the end of the session, the panel and attendees together will have identified EIA challenges and shared tools for addressing them. Building customer-centered communities with new collaboration tools was the theme of a panel discussion led by Kate Noerr, CEO of MuseGlobal . Berkshire Publishing is running a project that attracts opinion contributions and ratings. The “Blogging in Education” panel featured Pat Delaney, one of my earliest mentors, and there were a bunch of other smart people all around. But the real kick to the conference was the Day 2 unconference .
This panel was very very insightful. The panelists were all recent grads of the University of Washington’s iSchool . I think this question relates back to the panel discussion I moderated at the Faculty Academy this Spring. Why are faculty so resistant to incorporating new media in their teaching? Some of the features that make Drupal popular and widely adopted will be demonstrated, including its query-building interface (’Views’), custom content type creation (’CCK’) and page layout (’Panels’) modules. We will take a look at the Drupal API hook system and theme override system, and showcase a sampling of Drupal’s module functionality, including its ability to integrate with other systems such as 3rd party multimedia sites, social networking sites, and web services such as Amazon as well as its ability to act as an e-commerce solution.
As blogging has taken off, people have started to realise that they could leverage their content, information and knowledge by serving up ads that relate directly to the ideas they put forward. For example, if you have an article on your website with some advice about sports injuries, in this case, the ads which Adsense might serve up would be related to the article and could include local Physios, sports clubs, doctors and the like. For example, think about when content at a site is ever-changing: what does it mean to tell a user they have been to a particular URL previously, when the page that appears at that location could well have changed? Emma Tonkin examines the problem of finding and searching digital content on the web and the limitations of current systems. She explores some of the technology developments that are beginning to address these issues, such as the semantic web, data mining, multimedia search and context-aware systems.
Web 2.0 tools have the potential to reshape business as much as the original dot-com revolution did, but the transformation will take just as long to solidify. Brian Oberkirch, who’d just started a weblog business, fled his home in Slidell and, sitting in Dallas, was desperate for news so he started his blog to bring the news to him and his community. He wanted us to make sure we don’t think this disaster is over as we try to prepare for the next one. The most successful web 2.0 businesses are powered by data that is used by participants to create new valuable data. The 2.0 playbook begins with understanding the data advantages your business can command.
They target different problems: so it’s just as hard to imagine building a lightweight wiki with SOA as it is a global supply chain with (say) MySpace. Kevin Hodgson was speaking of blogs and podcasts, of wikis and digital stories. Hodgson, a technology liaison at the Massachusetts Writing Project, was on a mission. After all, this is an informal meeting organized through a Wiki where you can participate and share your knowledge . Not necessarily technical knowledge, also designers, project managers, and information architects have been spotted — I wish they would speak up more often.
Research questions can be found in learning about success factors (of Social Software) and non-success factors (of CSCW), in making the integration work, in identifying functionalities of CSCW systems that should be incorporated in Social Software systems etc. See more on the upcoming workshop documentation pages . Maybe, just maybe, it was all a question of timing. Insecure people were learning that knowledge had power, while being presented with tools to protect, fortify, even submerge, that knowledge.
